Cannot read words on the screen.

Mon Oct 07, 2013 8:49 pm

How can I get the picture on a TV to magnify so I can read the words once the Rasberry Pi is booting as the image words are too small to read? I am a newbe. Any help would be appreciated.
Do I need to go into the Config file and change the resolution?
If so, what do I change it to?
I read in the form that I need to change the Config file, hdmi mode to 58, for a 480i tv resolution screen.
Please help. Thanks!

Hi redcliff;
Okay so there is a file called config.txt which you just need to edit and save.
Then when you reboot your Pi it should go into the desired screen mode.

The file is located on the first partition of your SD card, you can edit it in two ways. Either take the SD card out and put it into another machine with an SD slot, or you can do the edit on the Pi itself.

On the Pi itself the command you want is;

Code: Select all

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
hdmi_mode=58 gives you 480i at 240Hz though? Are you sure your monitor can do this?
Anyway here is a list of all the options you can use;

Maybe you should try 2 or 6 first? Either that or post the make and model of your TV.

I have an older 32" Magnavox TV, model # TP3273 C101. It is a 480i 60HZ CRT TV.
Would changing the Screen resolution help with my problem?
According to the values, I can use hdmi mode 6, 7, 10 or 11.
Which would be the best to correct the size of the font on my TV Screen, so it is large enough to read?
Please help.
Thanks!! :(
