Wifi dongle

Sun Oct 06, 2013 1:01 pm

Hey there, noob question incoming! I was wondering will any wifi dongle be suitable for the raspberry pi or not? I was looking at this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Daffodil-LAN03- ... ifi+dongle as it's relatively cheap and has a 4.2 star rating.
Thanks for your time, George.

I got the Daffodil model No. LAN03 to work. Looks like it's really a Realtek Semiconductor Corp device.

Copy code into a example.sh and chmod 777 it to run.(you will need internet for this to work)

Code: Select all

echo "downloading the driver"
git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu.git
cd rtl8188eu/
echo "copying rtl8188eufw.bin driver to /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/"
sudo cp rtl8188eufw.bin /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bin
cd ..
echo "removing none needed downloaded files"
sudo rm -rf rtl8188eu
"rebooting the Raspberry pi to pick up the new driver"
sudo init 6
Hope this helps
vi example.sh
hit "i"
paste from code above, then hit escape.
hit ":"
wq
chmod 777 example.sh
./example.sh

to check if it's working

Code: Select all

ifconfig -a
you should see wlan0

Note: This is a bug in the kernel

I'm not sure about that dongle, but the Official WiFi Dongle is well, official so that will work the best. You can find it from the swag store, pimoroni etc.
