It has been asked already somewhere here around, so I thought it may be useful to write a short guide on how to set-up a static IP in Debian (been there, done that):

Thanks for this - if there is indeed any issue with DHCP leases on domestic LAN's/WLAN's (because of the timestamp/RTC issue) then this will be useful - for me I realised that what I tend to do is restrict my addresses in the DHCP pool to 192.168.1.2 to .55 and then statically allocate IP addresses to devices using IP's in the 192.168.1.56 to 192.168.1.127 range using my router settings which acts as a DNS relay and DHCP server. I have a NSLU2 (SLUG) sat with its default 192.168.1.77 humming on my LAN.
In fact at last count, I run with about 10 to 15 devices (including webcam, tablets, phones, laptops, WII, NAS etc) connected on my domestic WLAN/LAN - quite ridiculous...

Just a wee note to say that different distros use different methods to maintain their network infrastructure, so it's worthwhile pointing out (as you have done) that this is for Debian...
Also, since we're talking about Debian here, an 18 year old Linux distribution, it's worthwhile noting that there's a wealth of information already out there about it... Including a system administrator guide. e.g. this page:
http://www.debian-administrati.....ticles/254
has all the Debian specific information...
