How to format onto a SD card

Fri Jul 19, 2013 9:01 am

Hi guys, I am new to using raspberry pi and me and my friend bought one together to try it out. My friend managed to get Debian wheezy onto the SD card but we decided we wanted to use Raspbian "wheezy" as our first start out software however I am struggling to writing the image file onto my SD card. It is a new Kingston class 4 8GB SDHC card. When I used the win32 disk imager, before I used the checksum utility to assure that the file matched the code given on the website and it did. However, when I extracted the wheezy zip file into a image file and used win32 disk imager to write the file onto the SD card, it says "error 21. Device is not ready." Can any one help? I am using windows 7 and a 64 bit operating system.

Use loads of sunscreen, use the search, be elaborate in questions, paste commands and error messages, and remember google is your friend!

One more thing...
I've got also a class 4 sdhc (I had before Raspberry). The first month worked great since crashed the system.
From then , every 2 or 3 updates crashes again. I haven´t got any hdmi monitor in my office. May be only is necessary run fsck but i can't see it
I'd suggest to get a class 10 sd card.
