Re: Debian Terminal Colors - How?

Fri Apr 20, 2012 5:47 pm

I'd like to have the non-GUI terminal show colors for directories, prompts and the like. How do I go about changing from the default Linux term to something like xterm-color?

Bill

BTW...before I get the usual RTFM replies, I've tried looking on the net, using the package manager to DL xterm, Googling it, R'ingTFM, etc.

Please be kind and feed the n00bs!

Prolly manage it by typing:

export TERM=ansi

at the command prompt

There is nothing wrong with the TERM setting.  The issue is that /home/pi in the distributed image starts out completely empty, without the usual dot files.

To fix it run the following command as user pi, and then log back in.cp -a /etc/skel/.??* ~/

You nailed it! Thanks. I never thought of the missing files in the user home.

"I see colors."
