Pi Case

Hello.

I plan on making a moible device using the Rasberry Pi B Version. I think I would want to use the NMediaPC HTPC Case(http://www.newegg.com/Product/.....6811204040). How would I mount my Pi on it?

I think you are overestimating the size of the raspberrypi.  That case is an HTPC case. It's about the size of a cable TV receiver.  The raspberrypi, on the other hand, is the size of a credit card.

You COULD put the raspi in that case, with some custom work, but, i'm not entirely sure why you would want to.

Also the R-PI doesn't have "mounting holes", you could just "duct tape" it in the oversized case LOL.

I would not use ductape, as it is conductive.

REAL duct tape has aluminum in it. That's the stuff that you would actually use to tape up holes in ducts. That would be bad to use.

The more common "duct tape" you get at the store, which is really "duck tape" (originally introduced as a waterproof means of taping up ammunition cases during world war 2, hence the term "duck") is not "duct tape" at all. It might have a metallic color to it, but it isn't metallic. It's just adhesive PVC.

If you really wanted to use that case, maybe you could mount bulldog clips or something similar to the bottom of the case and put the RPi into the clips?  Insulate the metal of the clips by winding tape around the metal part of the clip that comes into contact with the RPi?

No idea if that would work though.

On the web shots I"ve seen what are the two holes on the left hand side of the circuit board? Could these not be used with plastic pegs to mount the board? http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs

I'm not sure how secure that would be, to be honest.  I don't think that would hold well enough to enable you to move the case, or plug in / unplug stuff to the raspi.

Just my £0.02 though.

Wait, I heard about some people using legos to custom build a case for it. Could I do this?

No, sorry,it clearly states in the terms and conditions that Yojo98 cannot use lego to build a case, even if other people can.

It"s all about design and RnD isn"t it? That"s what the PI boys and girls keep harping on about. So I think yes whilst a little big it brings it to with price of everyone. lol

I'm making in acrylic cases with possibility to fit the pieces of LEGO..  :-)

I don't know - a 3*2 brick is about the right size...

I think that comment, like mine about using duck(t) tape was a bit "tongue in cheek", if you would be happy with a LEGO case, and indeed why not, then by all means. There are even building instructions to be found on-line.

Maybe the foundation could have a chat with Lego and see if they can produce a kit! lol

If only they'd bring back Tog'l's... a million times neater than Legos ever dreamed of being... And they had little red panels fulla holes that would have made a perfect base for a Pi case... and little heads and hands and feet to personalize the case... and wheels... Come to think of it, a Raspi would probably have fit in a Zeroids case, you know, the Zeroids backed into the case to turn themselves off... And I'll bet a Raspi would have fit just great in my Remco Lost in Space robot... or my Major Matt Mason Moon Crawler... I want my childhood back, I'm old enough now to appreciate it!

no those are not holes they are inputs and outputs called gpio they can be used for displays motors leds and meny other things
