aptitude errors setting up zoneminder

Thu May 23, 2013 6:28 am

Hi,

I'm new to the Raspberry PI and Raspbian.

I could successfully install the OS (latest available release on model B) via berryboot: the system is running fine.
But when I try to install zoneminder with aptitude I receive some errors (see attached screenshot).
How can I fix it?

Thanks a lot and cheers!

Gianni

Screenshot appears to be missing. Did you "sudo apt-get update" (and, maybe, also "sudo apt-get upgrade") or the equivalent aptitude options. (Although I can use both apt and aptitude I tend to use their gui-based cousin synaptic which has additional capabilities when trying to find "interesting", "new" or "related" software esp. since I'm usually running Ubuntu on my netbook).
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

Yes, attachment was missing. I realized only now that the upload limit is only 64k. I've just uploaded the screenshot, but I had to make it smaller and I fear it is unreadable.

No, I didn't to apt get update nor upgrade because I freshly installed raspbian from the Internet and I thought it was up to date.

I'm going to update and upgrade and try again the zoneminder installation.

I would prefer synaptic, too. But when I tried to install it with aptitude, I got the same kind of errors that I got when trying to install zm.

Thanks for the moment.

Freshly installed Rasbian from the internet ?
as in you flashed the image from the Pi site ?
That is sure to be out of date.
always run an apt-get update before you install any software.

The image was up to date when it was created some months ago. Since then there have been quite a few updated programs released, but not enough to warrant building and releasing a new image.

So, you should always do an apt-get update at least if you haven't done one for a few days, and especially if you get messages about missing files.
