Having trouble setting up a static ip

Tue May 21, 2013 9:29 pm

I am trying to setup a static ip to run a server because it the HTML file I put up when I go to the IP address appears when got to it on my network , but on another network doesn't, to that do i make a static ip?

This the tutorial I'm following -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-s8Uj0uZoA

And I'm having trouble finding the gateway, network ip. I found the address, net mask and broadcast i got with the command ifconfig. I'm using an ethernet cable and a mac router (Time Capsule).
Thanks

I would forget about static IP and configure your router to reserve an IP address to your RPi MAC address.
Doing that is easier as there is no configuration needed on the RPi itself.
See my tutorial here hosted on a RPi:
Note this is for Linksys router but others routers have similar setups.

Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

I would completely agree with klricks.
After spending hours trying to get my RPi to work with a static IP, reserving an IP in my router is working perfectly.
