Quick Simple Questions

Sun Mar 17, 2013 11:42 pm

Two things I want to set up on Rasbian:

How to login automatically without username and password?

How to have an application start automatically when the system starts?

Thanks

Hi Ven,

to autologin you have to manipulate the inittab file. You can read up on the steps here: http://raspbot.wordpress.com/2012/07/21 ... o-login-3/. Regarding security that's a rather risky setup, so I hope you consiedered all implications here.

To make an application start at bootup, please have a look at this article about update-rc.d: http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-managing- ... date-rc-d/.

Hope that helps.

If you are logging in from another machine:
Windows - use PuTTy / Cygwin and SSH

Linux - use SSH

Read up on ssh authorized_keys and set up passwordless login

Update-rc.d will start things like Apache or dedicated services. If you want to have something run by one user at login, look at .bashrc or .bash_profile

Thanks
