Untar a file on a flash drive (solved)

Tue Mar 12, 2013 12:20 am

I'm trying to untar a .tar.gz file on my flash drive. For whatever reason when I right click it, then click the "Extract here" -which is what I would like to do- nothing happens and the CPU meter shows that the PI isn't working on anything.

I try to get to the flash drive through the terminal and I can't go back to the /media directory.

Any thoughts on this?

maybe you have no rights to write to that volume, try to use sudo.

Thanks for the reply

I think I'm trying to do what you are saying. The problem is, I can't find out how to navigate to the /media/240E-C074 directory in the terminal.
The closest I can get to that is /home/pi

Hopefully that makes sense.

Okay, I finally found what I was looking for.
What I was trying to ask is how to get to the parent directory past the /pi.
After alot of googling I managed to find the cd .. to get to where I needed.
