First time setup

Fri Mar 01, 2013 8:30 pm

Hi all,

I am right at the beginning of getting my raspberry pi out of the box and getting it up and running (zero experience of this sort of thing before) and am following the instructions from http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup for copying an image to my SD card. I'm following the section for 'Copying an image to the SD card in Mac OS X (mostly graphical interface)' and have got down to the final stage where I've entered the sudo command.

What next? My computer asked me for my password which I entered. The guide says you have to wait a long time, how do I know when it's ready? How long is long?!

Any help gratefully received, I'm feeling a bit lost and am not sure how long to wait in front of my screen for something to happen!

Thanks,
Nick

Well I guess by now you'd be done. The amount of time of writing the image to the SD card depends on the writing speed of the card, varies by the manufacture of the card and the size of the image. I'd probably say ~10 min and you'd be done.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what the outcome would look like but in the end it was clear. First stupid question out of the way...
