I have a Raspberry Pi 4. This board is pretty awesome, i have wanted one for a while, and it became a fathers day gift, from me to me.
I bought a case with heat sinks and small fan put it all together downloaded Raspbian Buster and it fired right up.
I was amazed at how peppy it was, it loads webpages quicker than the laptop i am typing this on.
I setup SSH, created a bash file <temp.sh> and monitored it remotely.
I also monitored 'tops'
my main purpose for this device was for media - I am not interested in updating my Plex server and wanted something i could plug directly into my TV and view my media library directly on the TV.
I initially installed JellyFin, it worked well, but would not play MKV files.
Plex had a high CPU load, 70-80%
Enter LibreELEC - its a responsive OS, fast and plays every media format i have thrown at it: MKV, MP4, M4V
The heat remains in the 35-40 range
tops shows a CPU load of anywhere from 15-50 % for Kodi
I don't think i have any hardware acceleration on, still working out how to do that, and not sure it would help.
is 50% too high of a load to run for an extended period of time, say for example an hour and a half movie?
Just want to make sure I don't burn this out.
I also noticed on live TV, via HDHomeRun, the load is probably at it's highest. Any reason why it's higher and how can I reduce the load on live TV.
thanks,
Cacofonix
