Trying to close Kodi via SSH so I can use VNC

Wed Jun 03, 2020 2:11 pm

I am running Kodi on my RP4
I have it to start on boot. When VNC to the pi i get a black screen.

I am trying to close Kodi via SSH so I can remotely use VNC to the desktop.
I have searched online but no solutions seem to work.

If you exit Kodi from Kodi do you then get a desktop ?
Do you need to access the desktop that is on the display or could it be a different desktop ?

Check Kodi binary name, with top for example, it has different names depending on the Pi version you are using. For Kodi on the Pi 4 should be kodi.bin_v8.
The kill it: sudo killall -9 kodi.bin_v8

Yes when exiting Kodi I get back to the desktop.
I never though of connecting to a different desktop than Kodi.
Can you advise how I can VNC to a separate desktop than Kodi? Maybe I should put Kodi on the second desktop and leave that on my TV, and VNC to the first (default)? (guessing here)

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
