PWM Motor Controller Regulate Amps

Fri May 01, 2020 12:29 pm

Hello,
I am new with the Raspberry Pi, and I want to know if it possible to use a motor controller with a raspberry pi to control a motor and regulate how many amps it will use. I want to regulate how many amps the motor uses so that if the motor hits somewhere where it might stall, it will cut the motor off to prevent damage. I am using this raspberry pi to make a diy cnc machine.

This is called over load protection , it can be don in several ways , You can control the load the motor is driving.

You can a use a thermal overload trip. This you can be set to any current within the motor full load current.

You can do it electronically by letting sensors monitor the motor current .This can be interfaced with PLC / Microprocess

As far as controlling how many amps you want the motor to run at , This better don by controlling the load the motor is driving
taking in to account the motor full load designed current
