Screen Capture Program

Does anybody know of a screen capture program that I can us on my Raspberry Pi.

I normally use Shutter to take screen shots on my Ubuntu operated Toshiba laptop. However, I would like to use my Pi to take screen shots as part of my work writing user guides.

How about giving the command line utility Scrot a try? It's very simple to use and a tiny install. A simple how-to can be found here. http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/art ... with_scrot

I second the use of scrot. Works very well on my desktop.

scrot -c 5

gives me a 5 second delay before taking the shot.

Thank you for the help. Scrot works perfectly and so simple to operate. Just have to memorize the line commands now as I have been so used to clicking buttons.

This is fine when you are using the X desktop. There are a few screen capture/manipulation apps such as this.
HOWEVER, what about if you are running WITHOUT an X server ? For example, you are running a java app on the console and you want to screenshot it ?

Any ideas ?

I do screen captures [Alt]-[Print Screen] over a remote connection on a Windows machine. Either SSH (PuTTY) or RDP (remote desktop).

To capture the console framebuffer as an image, I think you can use fbcat

"PrtScr" aka "print screen" on keyboard works also. as does the screenshot function in GIMP.

Ok, now I've tried it and it seems to work

That's a low-res framebuffer because that Pi is running headless and defaulting to composite output. Also I've got it defaulting to a very large font.
I used "convert" from imagemagick to convert the generated ppm file to a png.
