Internet through phone hotspot

Mon Nov 04, 2019 6:16 pm

I would like to access the Internet on my raspberry pi through the hotspot feature on my cellphone. Two questions:
1. Is this possible?
2. Since I am new to raspberry pi I doubt t my ability to manage security concerns on the Pi. Can my phone, while being used as a hotspot for Pi, get infected from downloading to my pi device pi coding, project files, and any other files as well?

I can live with an infected or compromised Pi but I do not want to have those issues with my phone! Thanks!

No, the phones wifi hotspot doesn't interact with the phone's internal filesystem at all. It simply passes network traffic between the 2 interfaces, performing some address translation along the way.

Android and iOS are both very good at isolating tasks like this from other parts of the system, by only granting them access to the things they need to accomplish their job.
