Help finding an SD card for my Pi 1 Model B

Tue Oct 01, 2019 9:46 pm

Hi all,

I have about 5 Pi Model Bs for little projects, I know they're a bit dated now but have been very reliable for years although in one the SD card has died (TDK brand). I'm looking for a good replacement for around £5 possibly, I have looked at the lists online of compatible cards and it's proving difficult to find the ones listed as ok as for example with Sandisk Ultra or Extreme there seem to be different variations and specific models and sellers don't always list the exact model number to know it's compatible.

If anyone can please point me in the direction of a good one as I also wasn't sure if you could safely use a micro SD card in an adapter as well with that model or if it has to be a full size SD card?

Your old RPis are unable to sense any difference between a SD card and a micro-SD card in an adapter. Because electrically there is no difference.

Many thanks drgeoff, that's good to know as it broadens the range definitely and micro SDs seem to be a bit cheaper than the SD cards for the smaller capacities where I've looked so far.

No reason why it shouldn't, not the fastest card but your 1B isn't the fastest Pi either. If budget is what drives you then that samsung card is a reasonable choice.

Is this one likely to work?

Yes. And at £7 you're getting lots of bytes for your bucks.
