I'm so annoyed right now, can't get my share to show up

Mon Sep 02, 2019 11:35 pm

Cant take it anymore have made 3 clean installs, all i want is my PI to share a HDD to my network....

Using SSH, and Samba!

My HDD gets mounted and i can see the content, but when i reboot its gone, and my other computers cant see it on the network..

My earlier tries led to i could access a shared folder BUT it was empty, but the HDD was not mounted!

Now it is mounted but i cant access it...

fstab "UUID=4A18C02C18C018B9 /media/usbHDD ntfs-3g auto,nofail,noatime,users,rw 0 0"

comment = public storage
path = /media/usbHDD
browseable = yes
writeable = yes
only guest = no
create mask = 0777
directory mask = 0777
public = yes
guest ok = yes

Help me please im going mental!!

Welcome to the forum.

Bit baffled by you details :oops: as you can see it and also not see it.

Am I correct in thinking:
1) You now have the share mounted at boot time using fstab?
2) You can see the drive contents on the Pi but not on other computers?
3) The other computers can access the Pi via ping?

What are the other computers? Windows / Mac / Linux?
Did you load ntfs support on the Pi?
What O/S and version is on the Pi?
What version of Samba are you running and is it starting automatically OK?

Are you trying to share the root of the disk? If so try creating a directory in the disk root to share. if successful then move the disks contents down one level into the new directory.

when setting up my pi/samba nas i found i had problems when trying to access the root of shared disks, but sharing/accessing any shared directory within the disk was no problem. on discovery i stopped investigating and created 'newroot' directories etc...
