How do I remove Remove Unnecessary Packages and Dependencies for Vivaldi

Sat Aug 31, 2019 3:50 am

Following an article, I installed Vivaldi browser just to realize it's broken and buggy. I am using latest Raspbian buster on Rpi 4 and already removed vivaldi browser via preferences, add/remove programs.
However, these pesky entries remain and show up everytime I try to do a system update(sudo apt-get update). How can I get rid of them and make sure there are no other Packages and dependencies associated with Vivaldi?

Ign:1 http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable InRelease
Get:2 http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release [3,831 B]
Get:3 http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release.gpg [833 B]
Ign:3 http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release.gpg
W: GPG error: http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 8D04CE49EFB20B23
E: The repository 'http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release' is not signed.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

Thank you in advance.

You (or an install script that you ran) probably created a file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ with those entries in, or they have been added to the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

Remove those entries or the whole file if they are the only entries in it, or comment them out with a # in front.

Then you should be able to run apt update without getting those messages.

Thank you very much for the help. I was able to successfully removed those entries. Solved!

By the way, Vivaldi is *not* buggy or anything like that. You just have to make sure to install the right file.

Their web site doesn't make it as easy as they could - but as long as you download the right file, it works fine. I use the latest Vivaldi under Buster on Pi4 all the time.
GitD's list of things that are not ready for prime time:
1) IPv6
2) 64 bit OSes
3) USB 3
4) Bluetooth

I am aware of that Vivaldi is ok that way, however as written the remains of it prevent me from updating the PI4. In one way ot another I need tips on how to remove the mentioned issues.

Is there someone that knows how to do this and can explain it to an newbie ?

This is what I can read regarding the Vivaldi parts that could not be removed.

W: GPG-feil: http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release: De følgende signaturene kunne ikke verifiseres fordi den offentlige nøkkelen ikke er tilgjengelig: NO_PUBKEY 9658E8044A3AA3D6
E: The repository 'http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release' is not signed.
N: Oppdatering fra et slikt depot kan ikke gjøres på sikkert vis, og er derfor avskrudd som standard.
N: Se manualsiden apt-secure(8) for detaljer om oppretting av depote og brukeroppsett.

Any suggestion to get rid of this ?

Translated to: Signatures could not be verified because the public key is not available: NO-PUBKEY......

E: The repository 'http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release' is not signed.

N: Oppdatering fra et slikt depot kan ikke gjøres på sikkert vis, og er derfor avskrudd som standard.

Translated to : Updates of depot could not be done safely, and is by standard turned off.

N: Se manualsiden apt-secure(8) for detaljer om oppretting av depote og brukeroppsett.

Translated to: Look at manual apt-secure(8) for details regarding startup of depot and usage.

Did not see that it was originally in a strange language for most of users in this forum.
