Can I set video mode to av on Pi model 1

Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:03 pm

Hello
I am running pCP and LMS with jivelite on a Pi model 1. It works fine in HDMI mode and output but I would like to try a 4 inch av screen.
I can read config.txt on the laptop. What would I need to change to output av and I am unsure of editing it. Everything begins with a #, what does it mean.
Thanks

Lines beginning with a hash are comments and therefore do not do anything. You need to remove the hash to make the line active.

RPis prior to RPi4B normally automatically output to the AV jack if an HDMI display is not plugged in at boot time.

That didn't work. Fresh copy of both pCP then moode with no HDMI connection just av and nothing. The 7" monitor can cycle through vga, hdmi and av but nothing came over av.

I normally run my piCorePlayer + LMS on a headless RPiB+ (yes I do mean B+, not 3B+). I've just now connected its AV jack to my TV and it works.

I have just found a TV with an AV input so I will connect the Pi 1 up and try again. That will eliminate my AV monitors and also the cable.

That worked perfectly, AV from a Pi model 1. The problem was the AV lead was open circuit so it does give AV output as you said.
The next thing is to get AV from my Pi 3B+.

Make sure you have a suitable cable. See https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 22#p653422

I have a 3.5mm AV lead with 3 connections on the jack plug that does work on the Pi 1. Does the Pi 3B+ also default to AV and is it the same cable.

Well, the Pi 1 didn't have an AV jack, just an audio jack and separate video Phono/RCS connection.

The Pi 1B+ and A+ had the combined AV jack that all Pis (except the Zero) have had since.

The same cables will work in all of them though, but the Pi 1A/B won't have video on the cable.
