Maximum RPi3B+ and RPi4B Network Speed

Hello everyone,

I've been using RPi 3B+ for a long time and I'm loving it so far.
One thing i have noticed, is it possible that network speed (both 5GHz Wifi and on Ethernet cable) goes up to 100mbps?
I know that for Ethernet, RPi has 100MBit card, it's not a Gigabit one, so that's fine. I'm ok with that.

But WiFi 802.11ac (5GHz) should (theoretically) go for more than 100mbps but again, it tops at 100mbps.
Look at iperf results bellow:

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~ $ iperf -s
------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 4] local 192.168.0.90 port 5001 connected with 192.168.0.100 port 49444
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 116 MBytes 96.7 Mbits/sec
[ 5] local 192.168.0.90 port 5001 connected with 192.168.0.100 port 49473
[ 5] 0.0-20.0 sec 242 MBytes 101 Mbits/sec
I've set my router (MikroTik hAP AC^2) to broadcast 5GHz signal on only 802.11ac standard. Router is in the same room as raspberry pi, only difference is that the Pi is enclosed inside wooden cabinet. But they are not separated by any concrete wall.
Even that, speed tops at 100Mbps.

While I'm writing this i haven't checked WiFi speeds with laptop, maybe it's the issue with MikroTik, but i surely doubt.
I would like to hear from someone that also has the same device if 5GHz really tops at 100 or is there something I'm doing wrong.

Also, would RPi 4B be faster when it comes to WiFi speeds?
