Trying Ubuntu install - no HDMI Output

Fri Aug 02, 2019 8:53 pm

Hi all,

I just got my RBP4 (4GB). I used Etcher on my MacOS to flash Ubuntu 18.04.iso on a 400GB and 32 GB SD Card (FAT32). However the RBP doesn't give ANY video output on my Samsung flat (using a micro HDMI-HDMI adapter). Only if I do the same with flashing Raspbian it works fine.

I can't edit the config file to set HDMI to force, as I do not have access to the SD card on my Mac once the iso file is flashed.
How can I get Ubuntu correctly installed so that the HDMI port works. Unfortunately I can't use any other flatscreen for the upcoming future and as said it works fine with Raspbian.

At the moment that RBP4 is quiet useless

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Andyroo

You could load Fuse and an ext driver on the Mac or purchase https://www.paragon-software.com/home/extfs-mac/

Simplest way may be boot up Raspbian and pop the Ubuntu card in an SD to USB adapter and mount it to make the edits...

I'm not aware whether Ubuntu supports the Pi4B (I think not), but in any case an .iso file is for x64 architecture, not ARM.

The Pi4B is not useless -- it runs the supported OS Raspbian, which, incidentally, like Ubuntu is derived from Debian.

As above. Ubuntu Mate still in development for the 4B. Haven't heard anything new on this since early July. It's a case of wait and see.
