Problem connecting via VNC

Fri Jul 19, 2019 1:05 am

Hi Raspberry Pi-er!

I'm trying to connect to my pi using Remmina an a computer with Ubuntu 18.03.

I confignured my pi to accept VNC as follows:

Code: Select all

Rasbperry > Preferences > Raspberry Configuration > Interfaces

... and enabled VNC and SSH
On my Ubuntu computer I:

* used Remmina,
* correctly specified the server name (it is the local IP address of the Pi machine),
* correctly specfied the user name (pi),
* correctly specified the password, and
* selected VNC.

When I clicked on "connect" on Remina I get the following error message:

Code: Select all

Unknown authorization scheme from VNC server: 13, 5, 6, 130, 192
How do I fix this??

Thanks!!

Real VNC uses its own security encryption.

Simplest way to fix this is to use to official viewer from https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/viewer/

Hi Androo:

Thanks for your reply and am very glad there is a solution.

However, for very good reasons I am very interested in privacy, and would prefer an open source solution rather than to rely on a proprietary solution that requires my having an account with a private company that wants my attorney to review the terms of the agreement that I'll have to sign before using the software and "giving away the family farm" after I sign it.

If you have had your identity stolen out of no fault of your own, you may think the same as well.

Take care,
Daryl

How does open source guarantee privacy?
An account is not required when using RealVNC viewer software on your local network.
The account is only required when using the remote cloud service.
I believe you can use other (less secure) viewers if you turn off encryption:
Right click on VNC icon in the task bar -> [Options]
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

But if you are using RealVNC server on the Pi then you are not using open source software anyway...

The server provided by the Pi is owned by RealVNC and even the Pi has proprietary software in its boot code.

I think what you are asking is impossible (and yes I have had identity issues) - see the three Bryan Lunduke - Stallman videos to understand what you are asking!
