Re: i have a tight buget. is the pi 3 worth buying or should i just buy the 4

Hi.

Without saying what you intend to do with your pi how do you expect anyone to comment.

So consider this , is the pi4 and its new power supply available now were you are ? if no and you want to start your pi project now and can't wait and the pi 3B+ will do the job then go for a pi3B+

if you can wait or your project needs the pi4 then get a pi4.

or just give us more information to save us guessing ;)

And the question itself makes no sense, they're all at the same price...

Ah well, maybe someone will want to expound on the compared TCO of Pi3 and Pi4, including energy and accessories costs... :D

well to answer the question

No! Dont buy either the Pi3 or the Pi4

use your remaining cash to get yourself better nourishment as its more important...!!

I asked a similar question a week or two ago.

Purchasing locally, the 3b+ kit at Microcenter was $40, including case and ps. If I could find a 4, it would be $35 + case + power supply + micro hdmi cable.
Impatience was the deciding factor. If the 4 was available right away, it would be worth paying a little more, but 3's in stock.....

No, they're not really, at least not once you factor in necessary accessories.

But that depends on one's circumstances.
Got a phone with micro usb charger? You can probably use it for your Pi3, but would have to buy an adaptor to use it with a Pi4.

Got a HDMI cable? Use it with your Pi3
Got a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable? Use it with your Pi4.

Got none of the above? Buy a Pi4b + official power supply + micro HDMI to HDMI cable.

The Pi4B, even the 1GB is so much better than the 3B+.
How poor is this guy?

If he is spamming then he must have computing devic of some sort.
Probably fancy $1000 smart phone?

But seriously, avoid Pi's at all costs, they breed like tribbles.
And they are a big waste of time, all that learning and coding, it seriously hurts the brain.
And you can feed a family of four at a fast food place one meal each for the price of a Pi.

It might even lead to a career change that earns more money or less money and more fun.

Probably not. We've seen far, far too many power problems that ended up be attributable to using phone charges in lieu of an actual PSU.

While not particularly recommended, not every charger is terrible.
I've been powering my Pi4b via both the official Pi3 power supply and a random high quality 4.8A (2x2.4A) usb wall wart, with micro usb to usb c adaptor.

In both cases, I've yet to see an undervolt warning. Granted, my use so far has been limited to fullscreen 1080p youtube playback via Chromium.

normally the consideration of using pi 3 or pi 4 isn't too much about budget rather than the intended use
i think the pi4 is pretty much a small mini desktop pc replacement given its speeds and prowess
but if it is in some niche use cases e.g. monitoring and logging slow moving temperatures, the pi4 may well be an 'overkill' to do all that
and a pi3 would be plenty adequate
an arduino with just a mere 8k memory could literally monitor and log slow moving temperatures, just that an Rpi is way more convenient to do that.
but then an Rpi don't have an Adc so you'd need to interface something

monitoring and logging slow moving temperatures
B+ is fine for that, even does a plotting webserver, I max out the cpu usage at 2% ;)
Recycle 3B+ - perhaps security camera with motion detect? Streaming camera?
4B = desktop, server, NAS....

Where did you get the tribbles? I've always wanted one (though not sure it's possible to have one for long).

I got one from Forbidden Planet some years ago. It purrs or squeals when touched or hears a loud noise. The others just seem to have turned up.

For any visitors from Qo'noS don't be worried Earth is virtually Tribble free (be aware of the rats though). You should also be aware of the dominant species who can be quite vicious and very devious.

Others have said Earth is "mostly harmless"

hmmm after several post from some of the forum members and still the OP has not responded yet

most likely the OP is in a too-tight-a-budget that replying seemed prohibitive as well...(or could just really be a spam post)

I can relate to the "Tribbles" part of the discussion (from the young once ;) .....the young ones may have trouble comprehending... :D)

Welcome to the forum!

The official price of the Pi 4B with 1GB RAM is the same as the 3B+. Unless you are getting a 50 percent discount for a closeout or used 3B+, there is little reason to prefer it from a cost point of view.

For many, even the additional $20 for the models with larger memory is not enough to worry about. This obviously is not true for everyone: Some are too young to have money, some too old, some have suffered misfortune and others live within a microeconomy where wealth does not easily convert into dollars and disposable income.

My wife gave hers to our daughter. It was one of the ones used in the original program.

Fantastic!
My wife loves tribbles. One day I got up early, downloaded some pictures of tribbles, cut them out and stuck them in various locations around our house. It took her hours to find them in the great tribble hunt of 2009

That's the trouble with tribbles they're like busses, you look for hours waiting and then 1000's come at once.

Yeah... Well... Apparently Shatner was allergic to the fake fur the ones used for shooting the shows were covered in. And the scene where they come pouring of the bin on him to several takes....

On topic...still no further word (here or anywhere else in these forums) from the OP.
