problem after shut down - raspberry pi 3b+

Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:36 pm

Hello,

i had to re-install my (32Go)sd card

i followed the instructions :

downloaded on https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ version Raspbian Buster with desktop and recommended software ZIP and extracted the flash copy

then i flashed it on my sd card with balenaEtcher (i did not formated the card previously)

the raspberry pi 3b+ first starts ok, i configure and download the lastest programs, but as now as i shut it down it will not restart any more
(i re-installed it twice, same pb, and i have seen people having the same pb with no answer yet on other forum)

what can i do ? (am i concerned with the remark concerning pb for raspberry 4 no rebooting on page https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ ?)

thanks , CV

Ah, you do not need to extract anything from the zip, etcher will do that for you.
Anyway, what error messages appear on the monitor attached to the pi 3b+ when you boot it?

That message is coming from your monitor/tv screen not the pi?
what happens if you install stretch (version before buster) onto your sd card using etcher?

Hello again,

I tried with the previous version " stretch (version before buster) onto your sd card using etcher?"
it does not even start : the ligth stays always red ; the screen always stays dark

then i reformated with NOOBS (i formated with SD Formatter as said and call it boot) and transvfered the files to the sd card ; here too it does not even start , but the ligths starts red and green, then stay red , the screen always stays dark

the only version i can start with is Raspbian Buster, but when i shut down, i cant restart

... and the pi was perfectlly working previously ...
(i just worked on Google Home project where i had to edit config.txt and check_audio.py - i dont know if that matters ?)

Maybe you could try a different microSD card if you have one.
Then put stretch on that using etcher (not Noobs).

No raspbian buster will work on any pi right back to the first model with 256mb of ram .

Are you sure your pi is not booting ?
just because there is no image on the screen does not mean its not booted , it may be your screen/cable that is at fault. ( check HDMI cable is pushed fully home at both ends especially if you pi is in a case )

Try flashing buster to the SD card again but this time before removing the SD card from your pc add a file called ssh.txt , then try booting your pi , wait a couple of mins if you don't see an image on the screen, access your routers web page and see if the pi is connected to your network ( wired connection will just work ).

if you find an IP address for your pi it has booted ok so you can now access it over ssh and using raspi-config enable VNC and try connecting to that to see the desktop.

if the above fails,

Have you tried a new SD card or tested the one you are using to see if it is showing a large number of faults ?
