Webserver & NAS advice

Thu Jun 27, 2019 11:39 am

Hi all,

I am new to the Pi but not new to Linux and I was wondering if the Pi hardware is capable of running both a low traffic web server and a NAS simultaneously?

The web server will need to be able to support a blog(Wordpress?) and a few pages that will contain some Javascript. The NAS is just for document backup and therefore wont be used for heavy file transfers.

Would a 4B or 3B+ be suitable for this purpose?

Any setup recommendations would be most appreciated ;)

Yes (most Pi models could do this), but if you go for a Pi4 you got a lot more headroom if the traffic to the website will increase or you want to use the NAS more.

Yes a 4B or 3B+ will be fine - I had three wordpress sites running simultaneously on a Pi2 using Apache2, Wordpress and MySQL. Later I moved that to a Pi3 using mariadb. All OK.
