Transferring OS with settings from RPI 3B to 3B+

Mon Jun 03, 2019 6:11 pm

Hello.
Is it possible to clone a fully functional OMV installation to another SD card, and expect it to work on another RPI with the same settings?
The internet says if it were the same models, it would be possible. However nothing is said about 3B and 3B+.
Any thoughts?

It depends.

1. Is it NOOBS?
2. Was it built before the 3B+ was launched?
3. Is it Wheezy, Jessie or Stretch? Which one?

1. No, it is not Noobs, It's OMV for Rpi.
2.Yes, the distributive was downloaded before B+ was launched
3.It's OMV, based on Debian.

If the OS on the card is based on Raspbian Stretch it should work after being upgraded.
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y

If the OS was installed by NOOBS, then NOOBS will need to be manually upgraded (one of the problems with NOOBS is that it does not get upgraded with the OS and quickly becomes out of date).

If it's Wheezy or Jessie it's out of date and you should start over.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?
