Pi 3 Model B+ - not starting up

Wed May 22, 2019 2:46 pm

I have purchased a Pi 3 B+, printed in the board is Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ 2017.
My problem is, i only got steady red light...

I have tried, NOOBS lite and full version, extracted and copied in to my 16gb sd card.
Also, i have tried flash my sd card using etcher, using the following 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch, 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch-lite, and 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch-full,,, And still nothing happen, solid red light only.

Did i missed something?

What should i do next? Please help. This is my first time using single board computer, and very disappointing for me.

:( :( :(

Welcome to the Raspberry Pi forums.

All the documentation produced by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to get you started is here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/

There is a summary of all the knowledge accumulated from these forums during the past 7 years about difficulties getting an RPi to boot, see - STICKY: Is your Pi not booting? (The Boot Problems Sticky) - viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151

Some possibilities related to that information:
Bad microSD card;
Bad microSD card writer;
Bad power supply (and/or power cables.)

Hi kentor21,

If the green LED does not flash at all this could certainly be symptomatic of software problems. However, it could also point to a hardware failure. Is it possible you could have shorted any of the pins on the 40-pin header?
If you have access to a voltmeter, measure the voltage at pin 1 (positive; 3.3V) relative to pin 9 (negative; GND). You should measure a steady 3.3V (give or take a small tolerance).

If you don't have 3.3V on pin 1, you've got a hardware failure.

Tony.

#B.Goode Thank you.

# Anthony S I did measure the pin 1 with pin 9, i have seen only 4.2mVdc. So this is it, hardware failure? Is there anything i can do?
Powering it on without sd card can damage the hardware? Or touching the hardware while it is "on state" will also damage the hardware?
What a sad day.

No. That won't damage anything.

# mahjongg Most probably, my pi was hit by esd because i'm in a very dry place.

Touching any part of it while it is on, also cause damage?

Touching any part of the Pi (when you are statically charged) could have fried anything whether on/off. If it is still in warranty I would suggest returning it and getting another.

Hi kentor21,

It's quite possible that you may have shorted the 5V and 3.3V pins while your Pi was powered up. Apparently, that is almost always fatal since is causes irreparable damage to the main power management chip.

If that is what has happened I am afraid there is nothing you can do about it but buy yourself a new Pi. Don't feel too bad - I made exactly the same mistake with my first Pi!
