Powered USB Hub As A Power Source?

Thu Nov 22, 2012 10:30 pm

I have a powered USB hub with 7 downstream USB ports. The specifications for the hub say that its power consumption is 5.0V and 2A, which I imagine is shared among the 7 USB ports, depending on how many ports are in use. My question is: Can I use this powered USB hub as a power source for my Raspberry Pi?

yep - thats how two of my Pi's are powered - gives you a convenient 'all off' power switch too

Thanks for your helpful reply. I like the 'on-off switch' idea.

Do I need to be careful about how many other devices I plug into the USB hub, aside from the RPi, before there's not sufficient current for the RPi?
