USB WIFI Adapter

Hi,

I am new to all Raspberry Pi. I was wondering if there is any way that I could connect the Raspberry Pi to wireless internet in my house. I looked up possible ways to accomplish this. I saw that I could buy a USB WIFI Adapter. Would that be compatible with the Raspberry Pi? Would it even be worth it? (I have never used one before. So, I have no clue) Any other ideas?

I have several Pi's setup to work over WiFi. I use the EdiMax adapter which works well and for which the drivers required are included in the standard distributions which makes setup easy..

I've got an Edimax 7811 and the latest Raspbian image. Run the config utility within LXDE to set it up.

I'm using a Netgear WNDA3200 (Virgin Media) works fine with Raspbian and Xbian 0.8.3. (loads on eBay for 6 - 8 quid).
Installing the drivers was easy only 3 commands on the console and then later configuring it to use my wpa wifi network.
If your USB ports have polyfuses then you need to bridge them to boost the power the dongle (like many others) won't work without it.

easiest is one of the little nano wifi usb adaptors which has all the drivers in and ready to go in the latest raspbian builds and no polyfuse messing around

I have two of my PI's running on these and will probably hook up the other two the same way very soon

And then all you need to do is just make sure you have your Wireless Lan ID Details/Keys in /etc/network/interfaces and you should be off and away
