Desktop too large

Sun Nov 18, 2012 6:06 am

New User trying to get newly supplied unit working

Revision B, 512Mb, Powered from RS wallplug PSU, Debian (RS SD Card), Acoustic Solutions TV Monitor, Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A.

Output via Composite to a TV Monitor.

No sound connected, only keyboard/mouse unit on USB. I intend to use sound jack into a 2x1 Creative system I have spare

Boot Text displays OK, after adjustment graphical desktop displays partially OK, with bottom menu bar seemingly correctly fitting wide screen with small border, however the RPi wallpaper graphic is so large it is off the screen, and icons are massive and on boot partially off the screen widthways too, while the menu looks OK, the desktop area seems far too large. Running one of the supplied games its off the screen bottom and right.

EDIT UPDATE: Forgot to say, its Ethernet connected to Internet via Router. This works perfectly insofar as connecting to sites, but the output of those sites is much larger than the screen even though the menu bar is screen width, again the graphical screen is too large bottom and right with scroll bars.

Any Ideas please?

Adding to this, if you open a Python session, the shell window fits the screen with a black border, the upper and lower window bars being complete.

I loaded one of the trial files, the Slide Puzzle. When this is run, while the upper and lower bars are complete in view, the game screen drops out of window right and down, so only one of the screen menu button items is visible!

Now, in that game I can set the screen size down, at which point I can get all data on screen, so I assume I can set the resolution down globally for Composite output somehow..............
