No, you shouldn't have to set the OTP bit and that vcgencmd will give you misleading results, since it's a different bit on the 3B+.

You should just be able to flash the latest version of Raspbian onto a USB device and boot off it.

The 3B+ should boot straight from a USB Image as is.

It is burried in here (search for MSD)

Yes, only the 3B needs the bit setting, the 3B+ will boot from USB as it is. 8-)

I put my SDC in a USB adaptor and it worked like a charm !
I'll get a nice fresh stick for the " final " ( :lol: ) product ......
