iPhone USB cable as Hotspot - will this work?

Hi All

I have my RPi3B+ working fine, and it connects to my Hotspot (I have a superb tethering package with my mobile) without issue via WiFi. Just curious if the Pi will work and connect through to the internet if I plugged the iPhone USB cable directly to the Pi as I sometimes do when connecting my Mac to the internet.

Can check this later, but just wondered if this is at all possible and would it work?

Thanks

I think it should work.
You need usbmuxd to get a network device and to authenticate the phone from the terminal each and every time, IIRC.

Many thanks for this info, I will give this a try maybe this evening or during the weekend. I'll lookup usbmuxd etc, and see how to go about this. Much appreciated.

No significant reason for me wanting to do this as I am able to access WiFi on the Pi through my iPhone hotspot, but I am within the next month or so to be sending my Mac off to a super company in Cambridge who do component level logic board repair, and wondered if this might be a way I can use the hotspot whilst charging the iPhone at the same time as I do currently when connected to the Mac.

Thanks again...

I guess it's worth a try, but AFAIK the Macs can deliver much more power via their USB port than normal.
So the Pi would keep the battery afloat but I wouldn't count on charging a lot.
