Re: Which browser do you use ?
If you are running Raspbian Stretch with Desktop, then alternatives available from the repositories are:
Midori
Firefox-ESR
Also there is kweb:

Though how you measure slow is subjective

The information is out there....you just have to let it in.
Re: Which browser do you use ?
I read somewhere (dont have the link) that Midori is no longer maintained. Is this true ?

Chromium
Slow and bloated is pretty much the state of all fully featured web browsers these days. The only way to get around it is to stop using web pages/APIs for everything.

That's Google's new data protection and privacy option

Re: Which browser do you use ?
What it boils down to is that none of the Pi's before the 3 had the horsepower to do regular web browsing. Just wasn't there.
Your choices are:
1) Use something like MIdori (which still works and is still in the repo, but is limited to simple web pages - obviously, not faceblob). This is what I do on the one pre-3 on which I need to have a browser running.
2) Upgrade to a 3 series Pi - where you can run normal browsers. I use Vivaldi, which works fine for me.

Re: Which browser do you use ?
My Pi2 boards seem too sluggish when using anything other than Netsurf, so that's what I use. Once in a while, if I need javascript, I use the built in Rasbian browser (can't remember its name). It gets the job done, but not blisteringly quickly. On the faster boards, I use Vivaldi (excellent and speedy).

Is this in the main repository to install using apt-get? Or did you get the source and compiled?
Thanks

Ah, I didn't know that, thanks for the infoWorkPants wrote: ↑Fri Apr 20, 2018 2:49 amOn my Pi3, i use Chromium and sometimes netsurf.

Just opened it, really brilliant, very very basic, but I love it

I think you need to beware, as there doesn't seem to be the logout option and I was not asked for my login, so clearing cokies would be advisable .... just to make sure FB doesn't track you.

Re: Which browser do you use ?
I use Midori, but it's very unstable, at some point for no reason some functions just stop working, like opening a new tab/window, or some graphics stop loading. For the regular stuff it's ok. I only use Chromium when I watch a video and want to download it using Video Doanloaders, as Midori does not have those kind of add-ons. Also adding add-on on Chromium like Ghostery, Privacy Badger, Videostopper, etc. can cause memory consuption to go high, so I have to disable them. When purchasing stuff - I startup my PC. You cannot use the full functionality of Chrome or Firefox, mainly using GPU Acceleration, as they are by dafault not available on Linux, so I think. Some people offer their own versions that can be compiles with GPU acceleration.

Re: Which browser do you use ?
I use Midori too but CPU usage stays high most of the time dunno why.
About m.faceboook.com, when I click on "More Stories" it just goes to the top of the page and no new feeds are loaded.

Re: Which browser do you use ?
I did not do it, I run Gentoo Aarch64, it comes on Sakaki's Gentoo distribution.Firefox Developer Edition 58.0.1 64-bit on Pi , 58.0.2 on Intel Linux Mint

Thanks
https://github.com/sakaki-/gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit
.
For the full saga of how it was done check Neddyseagoon's posts on the Gentoo forums.
To compile it he needed to get a Aarch64 version of the Rust compiler going, which needs LLVM first.
Gentoo's Firefox browser has the multicore code from Mozilla's Servo engine.
A bit about Rust on Pi's

Firefox uses the 4 ARM cores to accelerate the browser engine.
Those cores run in 64bit mode and maybe there is some NEON going on too.
It works and runs fine, the tabs seem to use up less memory than other browsers.
