Does it happen every boot right away? Does it happen out of the box on a clean image?

Have you been running matchbox-keyboard? That can cause PCManFM to run in a loop.

Matchtop keyboard, that was it.

Apparently, after I close Matchtop down, it still runs in a loop.

Is there a fix for this?

No. That's why my RPi with the 7" screen has a roll-up USB keyboard attached.

It's horrible, but just about usable

I only have 1 open micro usb port. my mouse is in there now.
Can I just use a splitter to connect 2 things?

Using a USB hub tends to make sense with the Zeros.

No on a "splitter" (you need a hub). Or you could get a wireless keyboard + mouse that uses a single USB dongle. Or a USB keyboard with a built-in hub...
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?
