Standalone Kodi vs Kodi on Raspbian

Sun Apr 01, 2018 3:07 pm

Hi,

I tried to install OSMC but didn't succeed so I installed Kodi on top of Raspbian and set it to autostart.

Will there be any performance difference I may notice ?

It depends most on what will have running on the background on Raspbian.

I was using NOOBS_v2_7_0 but there was no option to install anything besides Raspbian.
So I downloaded NOOBS_v2_4_5 and installed libreelec from it.

That's another option. I don't use Noobs personnally but it should have the option to install other OSs, it is one of it's main purpose.

It's never had that and NOOBS appears to have been functionally stabilised (last update was a cosmetic change for RPi3B+). PINN has an option to refresh an installed OS without trashing everything else on the SDCard.
With the price of 8GB SDcards at an all time low there really is no value left in NOOBS. Etchering an OS onto an SDCard is a trivial process. Swapping one card for another is no harder than picking a menu option from a NOOBS menu.

The writing is probably on the wall for NOOBS.

NOOBS full brings some OS ( RASPBIAN desktop ...) can change with the version...
( what can be installed / fast reinstalled OFFLINE but that takes space from the SD card )
NOOBS lite & PINN lite not bring any OS.
anyhow the idea is that you can get more ONLINE:
by ethernet cable or login WIFI to your router at setup menu ( or supply a wpa_supplicant.conf file )
then you will get a list of downloadable OS ( for your board ).

PINN lite also has the option of installing OS from USB incl one ( installable image files ) you have created from your
own setup.
