How to install OSMC ?

Thu Mar 29, 2018 8:28 pm

Hi,
I am using raspberry pi 2 B+.
I want to install OSMC. I have downloaded OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20180316.img.

How do I burn the .img file to SD card ?

I use Linux Mint on my Desktop.

I tried

Code: Select all

dd if=/path to img of=/dev/sdb bs=8M
After booting the pi with the above mentioned SD card it got stuck

at the very beginning "Colour Screen"

Please help me install OSMC.

Please post the actual command string that you used.

What size micro-SD card did you use?

Have you successfully run other images on this card and on this RPi?

Did the extraction of the image file from the compressed download complete without any error?

Yes previously I had installed Kodi and raspbian using the noobs installer but today I found that Kodi/OSMC is no more included in the noobs installer. There's only raspbian.

Yes the extraction completed without errors.

Why did you answer "yes" when the rest of the sentence implies "no". You have not successfully run other images.

Download the latest Raspbian-lite image and burn it to the card. If that boots it shows your hardware and burning methodology is OK.

Can you please suggest me an alternative to OSMC ?

Something that is easier to install.

I dont have Internet on the pie.

I want something that can be installed offline.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... s/linux.md
possibly:
sudo dd bs=4M if=OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20180316.img of=/dev/sdb conv=fsync

now you need a computer with internet to download the install files...
and burning images to sd cards is/should be most easy,

but if you dig deep into NOOBS PINN there is a other way..
you can create a USB stick full with OS install files using your linux PC/ online RPI ( i not test using windows )
and a SD card with PINN lite ( format / unzip / copy ) || PINN lite image ( burn )
and OFFLINE install anything from USB stick to SD card using PINN install menu.
and at the incredible speed of ?5MB/s..10MB/s? ( writing speed of SD card in RPI board )

the biggest problem is that this kind of script AND the downloaded noobs installable OS image files GET OLD..
so the script needs to be reworked and run again for update the USB stick.
i play this here
