RPi with Edimax EW-7811Un problem

hi guys :)

have a problem you experts can help me with. My RPi has an Edimax EW-7811Un wifi module. I'm running a clean 2012-09-18-wheezy-raspbian build on it and use the WPA_GUI to gain access to the internet.

Now the problem is very simple to formulate. I don't see my router... I can see the routers of all my neighbours, but my router is not showing. To make things even worse, i can internet on the RPi through tethering with my samsung galaxy S2 without a problem, so the module works.

All my other wifi devices are working fine and all are recognizing my linksys router and SSID broadcast. When i connect the enermax module with my main windows 7 pc, i can see my router just fine with a 100% signal ( the pc is in the same room as the RPi).

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this, it would be very much appreciated :)

cheers!

What channel is your router using? My wife's HP laptop refuses to see any WiFi on channel 12.

The standard channel is set on: auto, do you suggest changing it to a single channel?

my Edimax didn't see my router when the channel was 12 or higher
it works on channel 11 and lower for me

There are different channels per region.

US goes from 1 - 11

Sounds like its a channel issue or power/reception issue

+1 for a channel issue... maybe. If the adaptor is somehow being used in US-region mode it won't see a router which happens to be using channels 12 or 13. If the router's channel hasn't been changed since it came out of the box it is most likely on 1, 5 or 11 already.

Another thing to try: If your router is operating in dual WPA/WPA2 encryption mode, try going into the router's configuration page and setting it to only use WPA2 - this quite often fixes a situation where one client device or computer (only) has WPA2 connection issues.

Obviously, you can only do this if all your other wifi devices can operate using WPA2.

I've got exactly the same issue but the plot thickens.

Using August Raspbian, my Edimax sees the router fine (so it can't be router channel issue unless the new drivers don't work with channel 11)

September Raspbian (fully updated/upgraded, but not rpi-updated) I set up the Edimax in the GUI, but after one (or maybe two max.) reboots it is no longer seen either in command line or in LXDE. Although it is clearly there on a lsusb.

maybe there is another signal on channel 11 (stronger than yours) around?
