Hooking up Adafruit Mono 2.5W Audio Amplifier

Sun Jan 21, 2018 9:09 pm

Hi I have a Raspberry Pi 3 that I am looking to amplify the sound coming out of the audio jack to a 8 ohm 1 watt speaker. I want to use the Adafruit 2.5w Mono Audio amp to increase the output, how would I go about powering this amp off the the raspberry pi. This is the link to the Amp I want to use https://thepihut.com/products/adafruit- ... er-pam8302

Is the question "How do I connect them?"?

If so, the attached image may come in handy:

Since you have a stereo output and a mono amplifier, you need to output everything through one channel and hook that to your amp or combine the two channels. If you want to combine the stereo channels into one mono signal, put a 1000 ohm resistor in series with each channel and tie the other ends together. This page linked-to below shows the process, albeit not Raspberry Pi-specific.

I've done this with lots of audio circuits.
