Switching between touchscreen LCD & HDMI

Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:59 am

Hello all,

I'm new to this. I bought a Raspberry Pi 3 and I keep buying accessories as I go deeper down the rabbit hole. Unfortunately due to the horrendous landslides and floods in Santa Barbara, my Amazon orders are delayed, including my Python guides and camera, rfid reader, battery, other fun stuff. I have a few projects in mind. I haven't used linux since 2012 and gotten very rusty. I know very little about the raspberry pi and raspbian, so please bare with me.

I connected a 3.5" touchscreen and got it working fine. If I plug in the HDMI output it displays the boot screen on my monitor and the desktop goes to the touchscreen. If I unplug the touchscreen, I basically don't get a desktop. How do I go about switching between the two? Does it involve a 'tvservice' command? I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction as I am sure I'm not the first person to ask beginner questions, I just couldn't find a straight forward answer to this specific question.

Thanks,
Eren
