Hello all people,

I just got used a raspberry pi 2 model b, and it does not let me change the password!
But if you type mount -rw -o remount / before typing passwd pi , it will let you change your password.

Should work easily :D :) ;)
If the mount gives you an error (can't find PARTUUID), do:

Code: Select all

mount -o remount,rw /dev/mmcblk0p2 /
instead.

Then do

Code: Select all

passwd pi
to set the password.

If you're suggesting you can change the password without knowing the current one, this doesn't quite make sense. / would already be mounted rw, so that wouldn't do anything (and would need to run as root). If they're running passwd as user pi, then it would ask for the current password. If they're running it as root... well, then they already have root access.

If you're seeing that your system is mounted read only, then there's something else going on.
