Why does my wi-fi disconnects after tunneling through PPTP?

Sun Oct 07, 2012 2:47 pm

I have setup a tunnel through pptp-linux. Everything works smoothly over the ethernet, I can sudo pon MYVPN and sudo poff MYVPN as I want.

But things get trick when I switch to my wi-fi dongle.

I configured everything, and my wifi connects just fine to my WPA network right from boot (ethernet cable unplugged, obviously).

But as soon as I connect to my vpn "sudo pon MYVPN" the wifi connection just dies, and won't connect again to my wifi router (i tried iwconfig and it clearly showed that).

Does anyone have an idea what I should do to make that work?

Hi

Are you running the pptp server on your pi, or trying to connect your pi to a pptp server.

I am running my pptp server on my pi and as you say, fine when wired via Ethernet but as soon as I change to wifi dongle the connection drops? I can't understand this really.

Did you have any luck finding answers?

Actually a better solution is to edit /etc/default/ifplugd and change the hotplug interfaces:

Code: Select all

HOTPLUG_INTERFACES="eth0 wlan0"
Sorry for the necro...

Return to “Beginners”
