Pi zero port question.

Sat Aug 05, 2017 3:31 pm

So I got this OTG cable from monoprice, and its a L connector that technically goes right into the other micro b port if plugging in middle one.
Can you technically swap power and data cables around? -- Or is theirs a reason not to; I know it works - but is their a risk in it.

Not quite sure what you are asking? On the zero the micro usb power port has only the power lines connected (I.e. no data lines), while on the other port all lines are connected.

Your reply clarifies what I needed to know - as I thought it may.. But someone else was saying just power from other port (which didn't think it would work)

That is true. It can be powered from either port.. However USB devices will not work if connected to the Power port because as mentioned the data pins are not connected to the power port.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

I can guess what the underlying problem is...when you connect the right angle OTG cable into the USB port, it blocks the power port. I have yet to find (not that I've searched particularly diligently) for a right angle USB cable that goes the other way.

Hi Folks,

From Amazon UK ,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00QA9ONXU

these bend towards the HDMI port and leave space for a micro usb power plug

Hope this helps somebody
