Running thrust

Mon Oct 01, 2012 5:08 pm

So, I'm new to Linux. I've managed the apt get command to get a simple Commodore 64 game called thrust, after walking through the advice on the raspberry pi book by eben. All seems fine. But how do I run it? To start the actual game. Apologies for the noob question

ok sound i had a look around the system and did the following

cd/usr/bin and found a file called xthrust.

Looks like it placed the software on there.

I tried just typed thrust, but it complained about a sound card not existing.

Not sure why it doesnt work now

Hi! Fellow Thrust enthusiast here.

Were you in the desktop environment when you tried to run it?

yea i was. I was vnc'd in through tighvnc. I opened up lxdeterminal from there, and typed xthrust.

It now complains about sound, and not being 8 bits pseudo colour, so not sure whats happening there????

Sounds like a daft question, but i had to second guess the name of the command xthrust, rather than just thrust. how are you supposed to know that the name of what you install is different from what you run? or am i missing something obvious here?

It seems like you have to dig around looking for something, somewhere that might be similarly called to what you installed through apt-get. Again, and I missing something.

Im not really a thrust fan, but i would love to be able to run some of my old games from my commodore 64 days.

Daft question in response: have you had any other games working correctly?

Not a daft question at all! I thought the same, so I installed penguinpuzzles. Now that worked as I expected. Apt-get it, then just typed penguinpuzzles.
