Editing config.txt for 240p Composite

Wed May 17, 2017 5:38 am

I set up my RPi today,
I did a PINN LITE EXTRA install of raspbian + kodi + lakka

I ran rpi update and did a software update/upgrade

I went into the terminal and edited the config.txt.
I changed:

sdtv_mode=16 (for progressive scan NTSC)

#hdmi_force_hotplug=1 (to make it so RCA is the default, but if an HDMI cable is plugged in, it goes to HDMI?)

HDMI works fine, but when I use my Zune A/V cables, there's no picture?
I tried an SD 4:3 TV and an HD CRT TV.

Where have you read that sdtv_mode =16? It isn't in the official blurb at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... t/video.md

Do you get a picture with your Zune cable when you use sdtv_mode=0 ?

Are you editing the relevant config.txt file? NOOBS and PINN tend to have more than one.

I got the info from reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comm ... m-comments

starquake was the OP
He said it was as simple as:

1. Get the cable
2. Update the firmware with rpi-update
3. Add to config.txt: sdtv_mode=16 for NTSC or sdtv_mode=18 for PAL

I'll try sdtv_mode=0 to see if the cables work in 480i

At first, I went into the terminal in Raspbian and edited the config file that way.
But I tried pressing shift over and over during boot and now I'm in PINN, I can edit the config file this way.

::EDIT::
I'm editing the raspbian config

I can't seem to get a picture from the a/v cables. I'd like to force composite out to see if that'll work but I don't know how to get back to hdmi if it doesn't.
The zune cables are suppose to work with the rpi 3 model B, right?

Okay so I figured out what was wrong.

NOOBS or PINN adds this at the end of the config.txt when you install the OSes when plugged into an HDMI monitor.

NOOBS Auto-generated Settings:
hdmi_force_hotplug=1

All you need to do is delete it from all the config files for each OS.

sdtv_mode=1 and sdtv_mode=16 worked for me.
