there are a lot of folks running their pi units for a really long time, we're wondering who has the longest uptime - so far this fellow has 49 days and counting...

anyone else know of a longer uptime?
Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
I can only seem to get 3 or 4 days on my headless (using SSH) Raspi before it seems to lock up (no ping). I do have a very simple Ruby script running that uses a USB-Serial port adapter. Not sure how to debug this, but it sure limits my confidence in using a Raspi for a home automation application!
Any ideas on debugging or mitigating this problem are welcome!

This is running the original soft-float debian release. At some point I'll set it up to use raspbian!

Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
Mine is off at the moment, but regularly going a week doing very intensive things (I sometimes see load averages of 300+ sustained for hours - yes I abuse my Pi for shivs & giggles!).
When I wind down the pain, it always recovers nicely, never runs out of RAM, never does anything funky, even overclocked to 1GHz, in ambient temperatures here of 30degC+.
I am confident of 'permanent' uptime if given the chance, in the sense that the only reboots required would be OS-required planned ones.
Had problems with my old 11g WiFi dongle (does anyone else think dongle sounds too much like a sex toy?), but a new nano sized b/g/n dongle from ModMyPi (fast service to NZ - 7 days from payment), and all my problems have disappeared, and my WiFi never drops.
I run Raspbian by the way.
Ka kite anō au i a koutou.

Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
The currently fast pace of kernel development makes high uptimes difficult.
People on this forum running kernels from late October are told they are "way out of date" and can expect issues. Certainly a number of USB issues were recently resolved. You can't address these sorts of things without a reboot.
With a reliable PSU and recent kernel, stability does seem pretty good. I'll checking back in 500 days if my RasPi approaches the uptime of my HP ESXi servers

Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
My web server has been running almost continuously since August 25, 2012. I say almost since I loose it to brown outs, power outages, ISP outages on a regular basis. I also have had two outages (SD card corruption) due to bad firmware updates. If I did not update it I would have had at least 60 days straight up time.
This RasPi has been continually powered up since it became my web server.
The Raspberry Pi hardware itself has presented no real problems for long term stability. Pretty good for a $35 computer. I just need to connect it to a battery back up so my local power company quits shutting it down

There's a "hardware heartbeat" setting where the pi will reboot the pi if frozen:xtalker wrote:I can only seem to get 3 or 4 days on my headless (using SSH) Raspi before it seems to lock up (no ping). Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
Every time my pi starts getting a lot of up time built up I either go on vacation (and turn off all electronics in the house), loose power (which happens much more frequently than I would like now that I think about it
) or end up rebooting it to test out some new experiment I'm trying to do with it

Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
I thought I'd look for a long uptime post as mine has just dropped into the kdb prompt after running smoothly as a mailserver for 30 days. No idea why it decided to do that.

Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
Mine happily runs for weeks with no problems. It is rebooted when I tell it to reboot. My Python script sometimes falls over due to bugs but the system is stable and SSH always works.

Ok, MrBunsy's Pi has been up for a long time! I wonder what it is doing?
Mine doesn't match up to that, but it has been trouble-free since I installed it in a monitoring application and left it untouched. It just logs sensor data and uploads via wifi link to a remote site every half hour.

Re: Longest Raspberry Pi uptime known?
Well if you *really* wanted to, you could get one of those battery -> 5V adapters, turn off all programs and quit X on the pi so it's using as little power as possible, then attach the adapter to the 5V and GND GPIO pins. Make sure the battery thing is on and then unplug the pi from the wall. In theory it should run off the battery. If it's a long distance to move you could get a 5V usb plug adapter for your car's cigarette lighter and plug the pi into that and unplug it from the battery (obviously, you'd want to make sure you plug it into an adapter that keeps getting power while the car is off, and you'd want to make sure to bring the pi inside once your done in the car for the day so you don't drain the car's battery)elem wrote:13:27:23 up 198 days, 22:20, 1 user, load average: 5.62, 2.62, 1.08
