Sony TFT LCD display connectivity

Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:46 pm

Help please :)

Can I connect my RPi to a 10 year old Sony TFT LCD display monitor? The monitor has only one input which is labelled as an HD15 input. So I bought a cable which converts HDMI to HD15 set it up and was expecting it to work. But nothing, the display goes into power saving mode and seems to assume that nothing is connected.

Newb user, forgive naivety.

Thanks v much, Steve

HD15 is VGA, you can search the forums for HDMI-VGA or you can read here:

Thanks v much. Tried a bunch of switches in the config.txt, they didn't seem to make much difference. Monitor comes on but does simply switches off almost instantly as it thinks no cable is present. Ah, well.

Thanks for the pointer.

Yep, there's your problem right there. What you bought is not an active cable, so it cannot convert the digital HDMI to analog VGA (HD15)
