beginning raspberry pi 3

Tue Feb 14, 2017 12:20 am

Help, my son got a Pi 3 for Christmas. We have purchased multiple items including keyboard, mouse, HDMI cable, eithernet cable and micro sd card. I attempted to follow the getting started screens. We have attempted three different TVs and purchased a cable for a computer screen and attempted with that. I think we have down loaded NOOB correctly. We are using the power source that came with the Pi3. Nothing has worked and there just seems to be page after page of trouble shooting or links to other pages for another down load. I just need to get the thing up on a screen. What can I do? I know this may not be the place to voice this but with amount of time and additional components needed just to find out it does not work is not impressive. Help.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You have come to the right place!
What exactly are you seeing on the screen?
For the NOOBS software, did you follow these instructions to install the software on the SD card:

One thing that is not real clear in the instructions for NOOBS:
After downloading and then uzipping the image files to some folder on your computer, you must drag the contents of the folder, NOT the folder itself.
It is also possible to unzip the image files directly to the SD card instead of another location on your computer.
In either case the 14 files and 3 folders must be copied to the 'root' level of the SD card and not remain inside a folder.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.
