SD card doesn't show up in installer Device dropdown

I just bought a Lexar 8gb SD card. (It says SDHC 100x if that means anything.)

I've tried running both the fedora remix Installer and the win32diskimager installer and in both of them the SD card doesn't show up in the dropdown of available devices for the installation. I tried flipping the read/write switch to both positions to no effect.

Do I need to format the SD card before running the installer?

I use Roadkills Disk Imager from http://www.roadkil.net/listing.php/C2/Disk%20Utilities
Remember to select the disk by Physical Disk Number rather than drive letter
I have found this to be much more reliable than win32diskimager, but from time to time I still get problems with the card not showing. On these occasions I find that using the Raspbmc Installer and selecting the "restore disk for formatting" button enables the card to be seen by Roadkill. Do not reformat.

itsonlyme- Thanks so much for posting that little program. I have been scowering the internet for hours trying to find a solution. For some reason my SD card will not show up in Win32Image...
30seconds after reading your post im now writing img to sdcard!....
