Is crossover ethernet cable necessary

Sat Dec 24, 2016 4:56 am

Hi,

I got new Raspberry Pi 3 yesterday and I am following all the correct instruction while connecting the pi to laptop screen, however the ip address for raspberry pi is not found anywhere using ip scanner or router connection list.

I am using the simple ethernet cable and not the cross over, is this due to that, the ip address for Rasp is not found?

The Raspberry Pi Ethernet Port is auto-sensing so does not matter which cable type you use:

In order to see your Pi on your network, the laptop has to share its network connection.

I did share the network connection using the option in network connections then wifi and in wifi properties 'share' connection.

And still I wasn't able to detect the IP address for the Raspberry Pi 3 for headless setup.

I did fresh download/write of NOOBS on another SD card and did everything correct, still it is unable to locate the IP address either on router or using IP scanner software.

Is this might be due to SSH server disabled for new RPi 3 starting Nov 2016.
PS: As such I am able to connect RPi to a dedicated monitor and and keyboard but facing problem with headless setup and mainly into knowing the ip address of RPi, am I missing anything?
